Cati Winkle
The Fit Pit believes everyone is an athlete. Our gym is full of people who make fitness and wellness a priority and because of these choices they enjoy a healthy lifestyle and all the "little blessings" that can come with it......
Fit Pit members are really enjoying watching Cati work up a sweat with that little baby bump! I asked Cati to share her story.... enjoy!

I have been a Fit Pit member since December of 2010 and I can’t imagine where I would be today if I hadn’t joined. I was unhappy with my body and my self-image was horrible but I generally felt pretty healthy, when in truth, I had done some damage to myself as a result of attempting a Vegan, then Vegetarian diet. My reproductive and digestive systems weren’t running right but I didn’t realize it till after I joined The Fit Pit; more than a place to workout–there are opportunites to learn. Improvements to my “healthy diet” combined with consistent workouts made me start to feel much better about myself.
My husband and I wanted to start our family, but we did not want to be so consumed with having a child that it took over the rest of our lives. We were pretty low-key about “trying”– we just stopped avoiding pregnancy for a couple of years. I wouldn’t say that it was hard to get pregnant, but I was surprised at how long it took and I was beginning to wonder if there were fertility issues. Just after our 5-year wedding anniversary and my 1-year anniversary of being a Fit Pit’r, we found out that we would be having our first baby! I truly believe that if it weren’t for the positive influences I’ve had from the Fit Pit, that we might not be expecting right now.
My pregnancy is going great. Very little nausea, morning sickness or any of the other crazy things I’ve heard about. I’ve continued to do the WODs with some modification as my pregnancy has progressed. I don’t beat myself up if I don’t eat as well as I would like, or if I don’t do a WOD as quickly or with as much weight as I used to, but I try to keep everything in moderation.
As I have gotten further into the pregnancy, the coaches have been fantastic about helping me make changes and letting me push myself or letting me back off when I need to. The support I’ve received from everyone has been amazing, I have never felt as if I shouldn’t be there because I’m pregnant.
My biggest surprise is that the body image I have now is better than it has ever been - at 5 months pregnant! I’m thrilled to say the baby is doing well and I’m gaining weight at a healthy pace; in fact, I weigh now what I weighed when I first joined the gym!
I’m looking forward to seeing how far I can take myself and I wonder if I will be one of those women who work out and deliver a baby a few hours later! When baby comes, I’m planning a short break from the gym and during that time I will do what I can at home but more importantly get to know my daughter. When I am back, I will work out at a pace that is good for me and eventually I will get back to, and exceed, where I was pre-pregnancy. My husband and I have already discussed how important physical activity will be for us in raising our family. While I don’t want to wish the years away, I can’t wait for when our baby girl is big enough to start working out with me at the Fit Pit!
